Three years ago, Cobra Starship weren’t even a band. Two years ago, they weren’t one either, but at least things were beginning to happen. Gabe Saporta – tired of watching his band Midtown being mired in the major-label quagmire – began writing songs on his own, under the name of Cobra Starship (apparently borrowed from a brand of vintage jackets). Last month at the MTV Video Music Awards, Pete Wentz decided to play a joke on his pal, Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta, by revealing his phone number live on the show.
At some point, Cobra Starship mastermind Gabe Saporta is really gonna have to decide if having a keytar player in his band is worth it. On October 19 and 20, Cobra Starship took to the When We Were Young Festival‘s Purple Stage to play myriad tracks from ¡Viva la Cobra! as well as fan-favorite singles. On the second day of the festival, October 20, the band had an array of fun cameos throughout their 10-song set. Cobra Starship took to the When We Were Young 2024 Purple Stage at 3:30 PM to play their beloved LP ¡Viva la Cobra! in its entirety. The 2007 Patrick Stump-produced record includes hits such as “Guilty Pleasure” and “Kiss My Sass.” During their set, the band decked out the stage to look like the inside of an airplane, dressed as pilots and stewardesses before throwing on their iconic purple hoodies.
