Madonna To Party In The Park


London’s huge Party In The Park, a free show held in London’s Hyde Park already has an amazing lineup, but today rumors abound that Madonna will play the free show. It seems Madonna’s European tour will find her reasonably close to London at approximately the time of Party in the Park on July 8. In other free-gig-in-London news, REM has been confirmed for the free show at Trafalgar Square celebrating the 7th anniversary of democracy in South Africa. Also playing at that one will be Mel B and The Corrs.

Napster Leak Makes Journey's Comeback Rock Harder


Journey guitarist Neal Schon wanted Arrival, the group’s first album in five years and its first since 1978 without frontman Steve Perry, to rock harder and shed some of the San Francisco band’s reputation for ballads. It does, Schon says, thanks to Napster. Tupac Shakur Knocks Shaggy Out Of The No. 1 Spot


Tupac Shakur’s latest posthumous effort, Until the End of Time, has knocked Shaggy’s Hotshot out of the No. 1 spot on The Billboard 200 on its way to selling just over 425,000 copies in its first week. Until the End of Time, a two-disc set, is the rapper’s best posthumous showing thus far, as 2Pac + Outlawz’s Still I Rise made its way to No. 6 in January of 2000 and Greatest Hits, another two-CD set, hit No. 3 in 1999. Madonna To Kick Off World Tour In Early June


It’s not much, but it’s a start. Madonna’s camp has announced that she will begin an extensive international tour in early June in Europe, with the U.S. leg beginning in late July. This will be the Material Girl’s first tour since 1993’s The Girlie Show. Tour dates and venues, which will go through September, are expected to be revealed within the next few weeks.

Pearl Jam Complete First Bootleg Series


Most major rock bands are good for one or two live albums during their careers. As of this week, Pearl Jam have 73 live albums to their credit. The Seattle rockers, now in their 11th year together, took the unprecedented step of releasing a budget-priced “official bootleg” CD from almost every show on their 2000 tour in order to combat pirates and to give fans a good deal. Warner Music Boost In France


Warner Music France is expanding to combine the activities of the company’s French recording affiliate and its Warner/Chappell music publishing business, Paul-Rene Albertini, president of Warner Music Europe said Monday. Albertini said Yan-Philippe Blanc would join the company as chairman & CEO from Universal Music France, where he has been managing director of Mercury/ Island France. Blanc will report directly to Albertini. Philippe Desindes, president of Warner Music France, will report to Blanc and continue to oversee the activities of the WEA France and East West France music companies. Bizkit To Write 'Totally Opposite' LP From Starfish, Durst Says

Coldplay Giving U.S. Another Shot


After cutting short a brief North American trek in February, Coldplay have announced plans to return to the States later this spring for a more extensive tour, set to kick off May 24 in Boston. The wistful Brit rock group has tapped Modesto, California’s Grandaddy to serve as the supporting act on the tour, which includes appearances on May 27 and 28 at the HFS Festival in Washington, D.C., and a June 23 KROQ-sponsored show in Los Angeles, according to Coldplay’s label. Metallica Members Rip Each Other In Interview


The lead vocalist of hard rock band Metallica cannot sing well and may be homophobic, the drummer isn’t very good either, and everyone was mean to the bass player. That’s not the critics talking, but the four members of the San Francisco-based group taking potshots at each other during separate interviews woven together in the upcoming issue of Playboy magazine.
