Green Day’s “Basket Case” was a staple of her live set, while her version of Metallica’s “Fuel” was performed at the mtvICON tribute to the metal band in May. “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” recorded while on tour in London, appeared on the… Read more »

Avril Lavigne, New Found Glory On 'American Wedding' Soundtrack

Avril Lavigne probably never went to band camp, but that didn’t disqualify her from the soundtrack for “American Wedding,” the third slice of celluloid from the “American Pie” series. The previously unreleased Avril song “I Don’t Give” will be featured on the disc, which comes out July 22. The track was recorded during the session for Let Go, and is about an independent girl who refuses to be played. “You know I’m not gonna cry/ About some stupid guy/ A guy who thinks he’s all that,” she sings in the chorus. Pop singer Avril Lavigne performed a free concert for students at a high school that won a radio contest. Teens flocked to the Dunkirk High School gymnasium Monday to hear the 18-year-old Canadian, who wore an oversized red T-shirt, baggy pants and a pair of vintage sunglasses. “I think it’s the fact she’s our age and being herself,” said junior Katie Abramowicz. “Her fame is not based on her looks. She’s original in her music and the way she dresses.” The students won the regional High School Spirit Contest sponsored by Buffalo’s Kiss 98.5 by collecting about 950,000 index cards… Read more »

Avril Lavigne Stages Successful Revolt At Tour Opener – Review

Demurely clad in a simple yellow T-shirt and black bondage pants, Avril Lavigne didn’t need to frolic about in choreographed routines to impress her minions. A simple rock show, devoid of flash and fancy moves, demonstrated her back-to-basics intentions, and the audience, composed mostly of straight-haired teenage girls at their very first concert (with chaperones, of course), responded like it was watching the Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1964. “I touched her hand, the one with the blue wristband!” gushed Madison, 10, from Toronto. It wasn’t the last time she and the dozens like her rushed down the… Read more »

Avril Lavigne Announces First Headlining Tour

Among the many things complicated for Avril Lavigne – stuff like new romances and pronouncing the names of rock legends – performing onstage isn’t one of them. The 18-year-old rocker said that “being up onstage is the best part of being a musician” and “everything else is annoying” in a recent online chat. When her first North American headlining tour begins April 11 in Montreal, fans will see for themselves how performing in front of thousands can put a smile on her face. Twenty-two shows are lined up for the trek thus far, according to Lavigne’s publicist, with a few… Read more »
