Fall Out Boy blitzes New York with new LP

Given Fall Out Boy’s penchant for publicity stunts (see this year’s nixed attempt to set a Guinness World Record by playing in Antarctica, followed by successfully setting the record for Most Interviews On Radio In a 24 Hour Period By A Pair of Two after talking to 72 radio stations), it should come as no surprise that the band celebrated yesterday’s release of Folie à Deux with a 36-hour New York promotional blitz that involved a nearly free show, performing on late-night TV and almost getting arrested. Over the weekend, Pete Wentz posted cryptic teasers on his blog for two… Read more »

Concert producers rose to challenge of Obama rally

November 4 was a historic night for the United States, the city of Chicago and, on another level, for C3 Presents. C3, an Austin, Texas-based promoter/event producer whose principals are Charlie Jones, Charles Attal and Charlie Walker, produces Chicago’s Lollapalooza and Austin’s Austin City Limits Festival . It now has another production credit: Barack Obama ‘s election night victory rally in Chicago’s Grant Park. “It was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever been involved in,” Jones says. “It was a humbling experience and very emotional.” C3’s relationship with the Obama campaign began during the Democratic Party presidential… Read more »

Call to Audit SoundExchange Revenue

“Corporate radio stations need to show musicians the money” is the title of a piece written by SoundExchange executive director John Simson, published in the San Jose Mercury News back in August. But internet song aggregator Orchard suggests it needs to start following its own advice. Orchard’s Greg Scholl fired off a letter to the Copyright Board, and published in Billboard, arguing that it was time for a major audit of the service, which supposedly is supposed to collect royalty money for redistribution to rights holders. Scholl says it’s very difficult to figure out what SX is doing with the… Read more »

Hey Pervs, Miley's Not Starring in R-Rated Movie Anytime Soon

Just about every week, there’s speculation on how Miley Cyrus will transition into adulthood. This week, MSNBC’s Scoop decided to go with a promiscuous role in an R-rated movie, where “you’d be seeing a lot more of Cyrus than what appeared in the Vanity Fair photos.” Ooh, naughty! However, Miles called B.S. on this report in her own lovable way on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM morning show. The actress, who sometimes goes by Hannah Montana, said, “I’m not even allowed to see R-rated movies!” Oh, Miley, so funny. In other words, “Yeah, FALSE!” Now that we’ve got that mess settled, let’s… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Cancel Antarctic Trip Due To Bad Weather

After having traveled more than 3,000 miles, spent nearly 100 hours trapped in their hotel rooms and survived roughly 76 borderline terrifying interactions with mobs of screaming fans to get to this very moment, the fate of Fall Out Boy’s record-setting trip to Antarctica came down to a very small number: one. To be more specific, one percent, as in “there is a 1 percent chance the weather on Antarctica will cooperate and allow us to land there on Thursday,” which is what organizers of the trip were telling the band and their management late Wednesday night. On Thursday morning… Read more »
