Today, Netflix released the official trailer for their adaptation of Uglies, the dystopian book trilogy written by Scott Westerfield. Joey King, who stars as the trilogy’s lead, Tally Youngblood, says she was “11 years old when [she] fell in love with that first book.” To play Tally is “a dream realized.”  Many fans of Westerfield’s books feel the same, as they have waited for a film adaptation to emerge for as long as they can remember. Netflix originally announced the adaptation in 2020, but unforeseen delays and several reshoots stirred uncertainty around its release. Rumors began to buzz several days… Read more »

11 Up-And-Coming Artists That Every AFI Fan Should Be Listening To

Despite all the territory they’ve covered in their near-thirty tenure, AFI retains an impressively conspicuous identity. It’s the Tim Burton condition in which, despite rejecting the confines of any categorical genre with each new release, they have an innate flair that renders them instantly recognizable. But that’s not to say that they exist outside the realm of reasonable comparison. We scoured the alternative underground to prove that point. And while we can’t promise the recreation of that first magical moment you first heard Sing The Sorrow, we did pluck a handful of new music recommendations from the AFI ethos.  Representing… Read more »

10 Alternative Songs To Shake The Anxiety Out Of Your Bones

Nothing, and I mean nothing, soothes my anxiety more than a night drive. Windows down sailing along back roads with only the stars above for company. It’s peaceful. Soothing. And to top it all off, a perfectly crafted playlist. Curated over years and years for drives just like this, birthed from panic attacks that don’t know how to let go. They knot themselves up in your rib cage, squeeze your heart, and steal the air from your lungs. It’s agonizing, it’s maddening. The right playlist is a life raft in an ocean of uncertainty—a deep breath when the air feels… Read more »

9 Things You Wouldn’t Expect To Learn About The Killers’ ‘Hot Fuss’

There aren’t many bands contending with The Killers for the widest breadth of sonic profile. Since the day that cage door opened, they’ve strayed worlds away from their grit-and-glam ethos of post-punk revival. The trek’s seen them over the washboard roads of heartland rock, through flashbangs of synth-driven pop, and the wildflower fields on the softer side of folk. And still, now 20 years removed from their Hot Fuss debut, they continue to fire off their early staples with the same love-scorned ferocity that had first lit the fuse. In celebration of the bi-decadal anniversary today, June 7, we reached… Read more »

10 Times Rock Ruled At The Eurovision Song Contest

It’s the most wonderful time of year once more. Eurovision is back, and it continues to get bigger and more prominent worldwide. Though it is known as the institution that turned ABBA into superstars and showcases the wildest and weirdest creations that Europe has to offer, there is still room for some rock ‘n’ roll in the ranks.  Over the years, pop has been the predominant genre in which countries project their entries. Though guitars have been making their way slowly but surely, they sometimes take the whole competition by storm. From masked monsters and nu-metal stalwarts to glam-rock superstars,… Read more »
