Geek Girl Riot pulls no punches this week, getting up close and personal with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, before dropping some quick takes on Never Have I Ever, Based On a True Story, and Flamin’ Hot.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
We’ve been waiting years for this one—so we’re not holding back. Sherin, Julian, Mae, and Drew ring the Spoiler Siren and dive deep into the Spider-Verse to bring you some web-slinging commentary on the story and animation, the characters and their arcs, and why this is the multiverse we’ve been asking for.
For two juicy segments, our hosts go in-depth into the themes and their experience in the theater seeing Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse for the first time, the writing and how it fits with the comics, and what they think will come next for Miles Morales & co.
Amuse-Esprit: Never Have I Ever, Based on a True Story, Flamin’ Hot
As an homage to the TV dinners we all used to have as kids, our Rioters serve up some entertainment appetizers (an amuse-esprit, if you will) in the form of their spiciest takes on Never Have I Ever, Based on a True Story, and Flamin’ Hot. Starting with Never Have I Ever season 4—or, as Sherin says, “Never Have I Ever (and I don’t know if I ever want to again).” Watch it (if you dare) tomorrow on Netflix.
They then jump over briefly to Based on a True Story, coming to Peacock tomorrow. Sherin says, “Get into Based on a True Story if you want to laugh and watch people be absolutely insane, with a little bit of gore and an obsession with True Crime.”
And closing out with Flamin’ Hot, hitting Hulu and Disney+ on Friday, Sherin adds, “Flamin’ Hot is as well-seasoned as its title suggests. Authentic, giggle-inducing, and heart-quaking, if you’re not inspired, you can’t handle the spice.”
