Although industry-wide album sales were down from the same weeks of last year in the two stanzas prior to Christmas, an extra gift-shopping day during the holiday frame closed 2003 on an up note. With the holiday shifting back a day, from Wednesday in 2002 to Thursday, album sales are up a whopping 20.6% over the same week of the prior year. Bruce Springsteen was the top concert draw across North America in 2003 as more than 1.6 million fans paid to take in his marathon shows and musings on the struggles of the working man. According to preliminary data published on Tuesday by concert trade publication Pollstar, the 54-year-old New Jersey rocker grossed $115.9 million from 47 shows to lead the annual rankings. Janet Jackson will perform on one of the world’s biggest stages, the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show. The National Football League championship football game is set to air Feb. 1 live on CBS from Houston’s Reliant Stadium. MTV is producing the Super Bowl halftime show, having previously produced the segment in 2001, which featured Aerosmith, ‘N Sync and Britney Spears. Sharon Osbourne, wife and manager of metal legend Ozzy Osbourne and host of her own talk show, is auctioning off hand-painted molds of her breasts online, according to the Associated Press. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation, or B4BC, a nonprofit group co-founded by professional snowboarder Tina Basich. Osbourne displayed the molds on Thursday’s (October 23) edition of the Sharon Osbourne Show, prompting her guest, actor Anthony Anderson, to bid $5,000 for them. Ozzy Osbourne has rescheduled his European tour. The trek will now take place in January and February of 2004. The dates were originally planned for this fall, but had to be scrapped when it was revealed that Osbourne was undergoing treatment for a worsening tremor. A specialist at Tufts University in Boston has put Osbourne on medication which causes dry mouth, thus affecting his ability to sing. Rain and mud were no match for a crowd of thousands who flocked to the National Mall Thursday for a free concert featuring Britney Spears, Aerosmith and Aretha Franklin. The concert was staged by the NFL to create excitement about the start of football season – a game between the Washington Redskins and New York Jets.
