Pelosi shuts down resolution on Michael Jackson

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi shut the door Thursday to a resolution honoring Michael Jackson because debate on the symbolic measure could raise “contrary views” about the pop star’s life. Lawmakers are free to use House speeches “to express their sympathy or their praise any time that they wish,” said Pelosi (D-CA). “I don’t think it’s necessary for us to have a resolution.” A resolution sponsored by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) cites some of the singer’s charitable acts and proclaims him an American legend, musical icon and world humanitarian. Even before Pelosi’s comments, some Democrats said privately they did not… Read more »

Green Day brings '21st Century Breakdown' to life

Green Day played the biggest show of its week-long tour of the San Francisco Bay Area April 14th, performing its upcoming album, 21st Century Breakdown, in its entirety. After only eight full rehearsals of the opera and those two club dates, the six-piece Green Day – Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool with guitarist Jason White, keyboardist Jason Freese and guitarist Jeff Matika – had the Quadrophenia-like hang of 21st Century Breakdown’s classic rock melodies and lifetime-punk drive down solid. “I”m not fuckin’ around,” Armstrong crowed in “Horseshoes and Handgrenades,” and there was no insecurity in the way… Read more »

Oasis Start A Royal Scandal With “Falling Down” Video

Oasis are back with a new video, this time for “Falling Down,” the latest single of the band’s Dig Out Your Soul. Directed by Wiz, the video’s plot seems pretty clear, as we follow a bright-eyed, luxurious young woman from random people’s beds to random drug dens. Later on, we see the woman putting on a crown, meaning that she’s regal or something, and on a red carpet event Oasis’ Gallagher brothers both snub the woman, hinting that one or both of them got it on with a member of the Royal Family. How do we know she’s a member… Read more »

Pete Wentz Joins Suicide Prevention Program

Pete Wentz has joined the Jed Foundation’s Half of Us campaign, a suicide prevention program that’s also supported by such stars as Billy Corgan and Mary J. Blige. To help college students understand how he too has struggled with thoughts of suicide, the Fall Out Boy frontman spoke to MTV’s college channel, mtvU. “I always had this underlying depression,” Wentz says in the interview. “The darkest moment was when we had just finished recording our major-label record, and two days later we were going to go to Europe and I felt completely lost and out of control.” Soon after, Wentz… Read more »

Ben Mollin to head "The Clandestine Industries salon" for Pete Wentz

Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz is opening a punk-themed unisex beauty parlor in Chicago, according to the New York Daily News. Wentz will call it The Clandestine Industries salon. Head stylist Ben Mollin from Bravo’s “Shear Genius” is already booking appointments, but the first snips won’t happen until the hair cuttery opens in April. This isn’t the first time Wentz has branched out beyond the music industry. He has his own fashion line – Clandestine Industries Clothing (coming soon to your local Nordstrom) – and opened the Angels and Kings bar, in New York, last April with friends Gym Class… Read more »

Punch-Out Boy: Pete Wentz's Hometown Heckler Beatdown

Lesson to all potential Fall Out Boy hecklers: If you plan on plying your craft, perhaps it’s better to do so from the relative anonymity of the arena cheap seats rather than during a private party attended by roughly 200 industry peeps and/or friends of FOB. That latter scenario is exactly what went down early Tuesday morning (June 12) at Chicago rock club Schuba’s, which hosted a Spin magazine party following Fall Out Boy’s concert at the nearby Charter One Pavilion. The band was scheduled to perform a brief acoustic set at the soiree, but thanks to one particularly aggressive… Read more »

Pete Wentz Look-Alikes Descend on Austin for SXSW

AUSTIN, Texas – Every March, the music industry throws on a pair of shorts, slathers on the SPF 45 and heads on down to Austin for South by Southwest, a weeklong celebration of bands, BBQ and (sometimes free!) beer. It’s a brutal bacchanal and music marathon powered by thousands of acts playing in hundreds of venues – at all hours – plus an unreal number of open-bar tabs and fancy private parties. Sleep is not exactly a top priority, so MTV News has dispatched three of its most tireless reporters into the fray. They’ll be filing reports a few times… Read more »

Fall Out Boy Downplays Antics on CD

Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz is far more recognizable than the average rock band bassist. With jet-black asymmetrical bangs, slightly smeared eyeliner and a toothy grin, Wentz certainly makes for a memorable image, but it’s his public antics that have created such an unforgettable impression. “I honestly don’t care what the perception is of me to the world,” says the 27-year-old, while sipping on a Starbucks’ vanilla latte on a rainy day in New York City. “It’s a weird thing to have come to, but after you’ve gone through the ringer so many times you don’t care. But I do… Read more »

Beyonce Stripped Down Image For The 'Fighting Temptations'

Beyonce Knowles fans will be surprised to see the Destiny’s Child frontwoman without make-up and high end fashion outfits in the new film, the Fighting Temptations, co-starring Cuba Gooding Jr., that hits theaters Friday (September 19). Knowles portrays Lilly, a singer in a small town in Georgia, who is recruited by Gooding’s character, Darrin Hill (her childhood sweetheart), to join the local church’s choir. In the event Hill can lead the choir into the national competition, he will receive an inheritance from his late aunt. Knowles said that her character was not supposed to look like a pop star. “It’s… Read more »
