Former Queen guitarist Brian May recorded two tracks with the Foo Fighters recently at Conway Studios in Los Angeles. “Yes, I put a few brush strokes on two tracks for the forthcoming Foos album,” May revealed on the Queen website. May elaborated, “One track is very aggressively rhythmic, and I contributed some ‘Get Down Make Love’-type guitar as well as some soloing…For this session we improvised with more modern equipment to get a similar effect-in fact slightly different-so it was inspiring and seems to work well with the track…Of course it was all experimental and I did it purely because… Read more »

Foo Fighters to Play Benefit for Musicians' Assistance Program

Foo Fighters will be taking a break from the recording of their upcoming fourth album to play a special one-off benefit for MAP (Musicians’ Assistance Program). MAP is a nonprofit organization founded in 1992 by Buddy Arnold and his wife Carole Fields to provide treatment for musicians addicted to drugs and alcohol. The February 7th benefit is being organized at the behest of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who has found MAP’s services invaluable in his recent struggle with substance abuse. “Plain and simple: I’m a recovering addict,” says Hawkins. “Buddy, Carole and MAP have helped me, friends of mine,… Read more »

Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins Admits Drugs Led To Hospitalization

Five months after being hospitalized for what was called an “overindulgence,” Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins is healthy, happy and making music with his bandmates once again. The 29-year-old drummer was hospitalized in the U.K. in August for a health crisis that led to the cancellation of the Foo Fighters’ European tour (see “Foo Fighters’ Drummer Hospitalized; European Tour Canceled”). Hawkins came clean on the causes of his recent hospitalization this week, and admitted that the “overindulgence” was drug-related and that he has taken subsequent steps to get clean and sober. “I was just definitely a little out of control,… Read more »

Foo Fighters Send 'The One' Out To Fans

Although a new album isn’t expected until summer, Foo Fighters have given fans something to get them through the two-year dry spell since There Is Nothing Left to Lose. The group’s official Web site, www.foofighters.com, is streaming a new Foo song, “The One,” which will be included on the soundtrack to the film “Orange County,” according to the band’s publicist. The straightforward stomp is a contemptuous anthem for the scorned, featuring a chorus of “You’re not the one, but you’re the only one who could make me feel like this/ You’re not the one, but you’re the only one who… Read more »

Foo Fighters Open For Van Halen Wannabes

It is Friday night in the San Fernando Valley and the regulars at Paladino’s, a tiny biker bar, are out in full force. Hell’s Angels gun their engines in the parking lot while lines of leather-clad rock fossils straighten their acid-washed jeans, run combs through their mullets and get ready to rock. Most of the crowd has come to catch the Atomic Punks, a blue-ribbon Van Halen tribute band. But there’s another contingent on-hand. Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk, actor/singer Jack Black, and porn queen Jenna Jameson are in the house, and it’s unlikely they made the trek… Read more »
