Nickelback’s record label has released a statement explaining why it wouldn’t let Chad Kroeger appear on the new Santana single, even though he’s on Santana’s album. Kroeger wrote and sang on “Why Don’t You & I” for Santana’s Shaman, which appeared on Arista Records. But when it came time to release the song as a single, Roadrunner Records nixed Kroeger’s participation, and Santana-at Kroeger’s recommendation-replaced him with Alex Band from the group the Calling. Arista recording artist Wakefield hit the road opening for All-American Rejects starting May 4th in Portland, Oregon. Hip-hop impresario Sean “P.Diddy” Combs is within a hair’s breadth of inking a worldwide distribution deal for his Bad Boy Entertainment imprint with Universal Motown Records Group. The partners haven’t put pen to paper yet, but the pact is 80% to completion, said a source close to the situation. The deal, which carries a fairly short term of between two and three years, is said to be worth roughly $10 million – a fraction of the $100 million Combs was seeking when he first cut Bad Boy loose from BMG last year. The Eminem show was everywhere this week as two albums by the rapper commanded top spots on the U.S. sales charts ahead of the Friday opening of his highly anticipated debut movie. The newly released soundtrack to his film “8 Mile” – which features music by Eminem as well as other rappers such as Jay-Z, Nas and D-12 – debuted at No. 1 on the charts, selling an estimated 702,000 units in the week ended Nov. 3, according to music tracker Nielsen SoundScan. Whitney Houston is being sued for $100 million by her father’s company, and it’s not clear whose side the elder Houston is taking. John Houston Entertainment, which filed the breach of contract lawsuit August 30 in New Jersey Superior Court, accuses the singer of never paying up for services rendered when the company acted on her behalf in a managerial capacity. But the question remains – which side is Whitney’s father on? Both say theirs. Thousands of fans and friends gathered at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, Thursday morning to say good-bye to flamboyant TLC singer/rapper Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Close to 10,000 mourners – including Lopes’ former TLC-mates Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas – made the trip to the Atlanta suburb for Thursday’s (May 2) funeral service for Lopes, who was killed in a car accident in Honduras last week at the age of 30. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, the effervescent, sometimes volatile rapping member of the Grammy-winning trio TLC, was killed in a car crash in Honduras, her record company said early Friday. Lopes, who would have turned 31 next month, was in the Central American nation for a vacation, Arista Records’ senior vice president of publicity Laura Swanson told The Associated Press.
