Kid Rock Says 'Cocky' Will Have Staying Power

Kid Rock’s Cocky captures the Number Seven spot on the Billboard 200 album chart with sales of 222,875 copies in its first week. However, the Kid was no match for fellow rockers Creed, whose Weathered topped the chart with sales of more than 880,000. LAUNCH asked Rock if he was concerned about strong out-of-the-box sales of Cocky. “No. I sold 5,000 records-on a record that sold 10 million-the first week the last time, and I’m prepared to go out and work it again: go through the same chains, the same…get the wheel turning once again,” he said. “I would have… Read more »

The latest round of reports indicate that the couple is engaged to be married and that Anderson is pregnant, which representatives at Lava/Atlantic, Rock’s label, have denied. Rock, who splits time with Anderson between his rural spread north of Detroit and her spread near Los Angeles, said that he’s tired… Read more »

Kid Rock Talks Sheryl Crow Collaboration

For his new album, Cocky, Kid Rock collaborated with Sheryl Crow on a tune called “I Put Your Picture Away.” The “devil without a cause” revealed, “That’s just a classic. I like to say it makes ‘Islands In The Stream’ look like ‘Happy Birthday.’ It’s a good ballad, great vocal performances.” “I was even shocked at my vocal performance,” Rock admitted. “How much better of a singer I’ve become throughout the years. The songwriting on that song, if you listen to it, the words, it’s just incredible. It’s a classic tale. It’s a good old-fashioned cheating tale, really told in… Read more »

Sheryl Crow Talks About Kid Rock

Kid Rock is not dumb. That’s according to Sheryl Crow, who recently dated him. “He has an overview of what entertainment is that just blows my mind, a great scope of what people want and what’s considered kind of challenging to the audience,” Crow said in the September issue of Esquire magazine. “The other thing is, he’s wildly talented. As he gets out and plays with other people, people are shocked at how talented he is.” Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, is known for his sometimes racy lyrics. But the 30-year-old rocker also performed a duet with… Read more »

Kid Rock's Sidekick In Spotlight

Pudgy and shy, 13-year-old Matt Shafer had an outlet in rap but few to really share it with – until a chance day he saw Bob Ritchie work the deejay’s turntable. “Wickie-wickie-wickie,” was how the skinny, smug 16-year-old Ritchie scratched records during a deejay contest, his baseball cap’s visor flipped up and a rapper’s clock dangling from his neck. The showman did his thing backward, even upside down. “Everything about him was cool – the way he dressed, the way he talked. I admired him, looked up to him. He was kind of like an older brother to me,” Shafer… Read more »
