Kid Rock Talks Sheryl Crow Collaboration

For his new album, Cocky, Kid Rock collaborated with Sheryl Crow on a tune called “I Put Your Picture Away.” The “devil without a cause” revealed, “That’s just a classic. I like to say it makes ‘Islands In The Stream’ look like ‘Happy Birthday.’ It’s a good ballad, great vocal performances.”

“I was even shocked at my vocal performance,” Rock admitted. “How much better of a singer I’ve become throughout the years. The songwriting on that song, if you listen to it, the words, it’s just incredible. It’s a classic tale. It’s a good old-fashioned cheating tale, really told in a cool way: ‘I put your picture away/I can’t look at you while I’m lying next to her.’ And she’s, like, ‘I put your picture away/I can’t, I’ve wondered where you’ve been/I can’t look at you while I’m lying next to him.’ Then it’s “I found your picture today/I swear I’ll change my ways/I just called to say I want you to come home.’ And everything that fills up between there-the girl’s all desperate: ‘I was off to church/Well, I was off to drink you away.'”

Cocky is set for release on November 20.
