Universal Inks Deal to Buy DreamWorks


Universal Music Group said Tuesday it reached a deal to buy DreamWorks Records, the music unit of the entertainment company formed by film and music moguls Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The purchase is expected to be completed early next year, subject to regulatory approval. Universal plans to fold DreamWorks Records into its Interscope Geffen A&M label, which is run by veteran music executive Jimmy Iovine, sources said. Buddy Miles Sues Hendrix Estate, L.A. Labels


Drummer Buddy Miles is suing the estate of Jimi Hendrix and several record labels for millions of dollars, alleging he was not paid royalties for his collaborations with the guitarist more than 30 years ago. The drummer in Hendrix’s short-lived Band of Gypsys, Miles, 56, said in the suit filed on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, that he received virtually no money for his work. The band was formed in 1969 and Miles left a year later. Lance Bass' Team Says Space Dream Ain't Over Despite 'Termination'

Dream Street Parents Sue


The parents of the members of Dream Street have filed a lawsuit against the teen boy band’s creators, alleging that their children were exposed to booze, women and pornography. The lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan, alleges that Louis Baldonieri and Brian Lukow “have engaged in a wide range of conduct and activities that plainly threaten and impair the minors’ well-being,” according to an affidavit from band manager John Stuart. Tragedy May Force Recall Of New Dream Theater Album


The hard rock band Dream Theater and EastWest Records are putting together a plan for how to deal with the group’s new concert album, Live Scenes From New York, which came out Tuesday (September 11). The album’s cover depicts the World Trade Center towers, the Statue Of Liberty, and the New York skyline engulfed by flames.
