Prince is denying allegations that he instructed his bodyguard to assault a college student who took the musician’s photo at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Prince filed a counterclaim Monday in Hennepin County District Court, alleging the student invaded his privacy and violated trademark and copyright law. Anthony Fitzgerald of Edina sued Prince and his bodyguard in April for damages of at least $50,000. Fitzgerald claims he was assaulted at the airport Dec. 29 and that his new digital camera was confiscated when he took a photo of Prince as the rock star was getting off a plane. The diminutive funk rocker will take over five channels at once Wednesday, when MTV, MTV2, BET, VH1 and VH1 Classic simultaneously broadcast a 30-minute concert special taped live last week before an audience in New York. Columbia Records will issue Prince’s “Musicology” album April 20 in the United States through a new worldwide manufacturing and distribution deal the artist signed with Sony. The deal allows for future collaborations between Prince and Sony. In 2001, Prince released “The Rainbow Children” through Sony’s RED Distribution. Prince’s last liaison with a major label was 1999’s “Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic,” released by Arista. In other Prince news, Regal Entertainment Theaters will broadcast the artist’s March 29 Los Angeles concert in 43 U.S. markets. Twenty years after he first appeared on the big screen in “Purple Rain,” Prince returns to movie theaters for one night only March 29. The Minnesota rock star plans to broadcast his concert in Los Angeles live via satellite to 32 Regal Cinema theaters around the country. Prince will headline a government-sponsored music festival aimed at boosting the image of SARS-battered Hong Kong. He’ll perform at the opening of the concert series, “Hong Kong Harbour Fest,” on Oct. 17, organizers said Thursday. Top tickets for his show are priced at $127. George Harrison, Prince, John Mellencamp and Jackson Browne are among those who’ve made the list of nominees for the 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ballot, a hall of fame spokesperson confirmed Monday. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record.
