More than four years after the suicide of their elegant frontman, Michael Hutchence, the five members of Australian rock band INXS will return to the U.S. concert circuit in May with a substitute vocalist. The group, famed for such hits as “Need You Tonight” and “Devil Inside,” will kick off a 40-city club tour in Anaheim, Calif., on May 30 with Jon Stevens at the helm, the group’s publicist said in a statement on Friday. Ozzy Osbourne, on his first tour of Japan in four years, will tape his performance Friday at Tokyo’s legendary Budokan Hall for a live album and DVD. Live at Budokan, a title most music fans associate with Cheap Trick’s bombastic 1979 live effort, is scheduled for a summer release. Although it’s not yet known which performance songs will appear in the video, the live album will contain some B-sides from import singles, according to Osbourne’s publicist. Recording Industry Association of America President and CEO Hilary Rosen recently testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on international and domestic intellectual property theft. The subject of music piracy has been top on Rosen’s agenda since the advent of Napster in late 1999, and the emergence of post-Napster progeny since the RIAA successfully shut down the peer-to-peer music exchange in July last year. It didn’t take long for the glitter of pop diva Mariah Carey’s new multimillion-dollar record deal with EMI Group Plc to lose its luster. Three months after the commercial flop of her first EMI release, the British-based music giant is seeking to buy out Carey’s contract by offering her a huge lump-sum payment in exchange for her departure from EMI’s Virgin Records label, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday. Scott Weiland pleaded guilty to domestic battery in Las Vegas Justice Court Wednesday and was ordered to attend 26 counseling sessions. Judge Douglas Smith approved a plea bargain that will dismiss the case against the Stone Temple Pilots singer in six months if the counseling sessions are completed and there are no further incidents. Weiland was arrested in November at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas for allegedly grabbing his wife’s arms and pushing her against the wall several times.
