Ex-Beatle George Harrison Dies In Los Angeles


George Harrison, lead guitarist for the band that single handedly changed the face of rock forever, lost his battle with cancer Thursday in Los Angeles. He was 58. The Associated Press reports that Harrison passed away at 4:30 p.m. EST at a friend’s home. His wife, Olivia Harrison, and son Dhani were with him. Boy Band Five Split After Four Years


The boy band Five split up on Thursday after four years together that gave them three number one hits. After weeks of speculation about their possible breakup, the band said the decision to disband had come “after lengthy discussions.” The band said that as their profile had grown, they could no longer do justice to their fans or to each other. Vivendi Universal Closes On Acquisition Of MP3.Com


Vivendi Universal (Paris Bourse: EX FP; NYSE:V) announced that it successfully completed the acquisition of San Diego-based MP3.com, Inc. in a combined cash and stock transaction on August 28, 2001. MP3.com stockholders voted in favor of the merger transaction at a special meeting of stockholders held Monday, August 27, 2001. MP3.com was delisted from Nasdaq effective prior to opening for trading Tuesday, August 28. Of the more than 69 million shares outstanding, over 68 percent were voted.
