Police to bid UK farewell with London gig


Pop star Sting said on Friday that he and his two cohorts from The Police will bid a musical goodbye to Britain with a farewell concert in London’s Hyde Park on June 29. “England is where we began our career, in London. McFly’s latest double a-side “Baby Come Back/Transylvania” has put an end to Beyonce and Shakira’s three-week run at the top of the Official UK Top 40, while landing the young pop-rock act their seventh No. 1 single. The track debuts ahead of “Beautiful Liar” which drops to two, while Akon’s “Don’t Matter” jumps up eight spots to three. HIM to headline UK rock festival


HIM will be the star attraction at this spring’s Give It A Name rock festival, Sound Generator can reveal. Confirmed today, the Californian rockers will head one night, in London, for the hard rock event, which travels through London, Birmingham and Glasgow in late April. Momofuku Ando, Instant Ramen Inventor Passes Away


OSAKA (Kyodo) Momofuku Ando, the founder of Nissin Food Products Co. and inventor of instant ramen, died of heart failure Friday evening at a hospital in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, his family said. He was 96. Born on March 5, 1910, in Taiwan, Ando initially ran clothing companies in Taipei and Osaka while he was a student at Ritsumeikan University. In 1948, he founded the precursor to Nissin and in 1958 unveiled Chicken Ramen, the world’s first instant noodle product. Lead Singer of Something Corporate Diagnosed With Leukemia


Andrew McMahon, lead singer of Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin, has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. He is being treated in Los Angeles and his doctors expect a full recovery. Tour dates for both Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate are postponed until further notice. Per Andrew’s request, Jack’s Mannequin’s debut album, Everything in Transit, will be released on Maverick Records in August as planned.
