U2 Working On How To Dismantle A Ticket-Scalping Bomb

After watching the Grammys, there were several moments that stuck with you. Kanye West’s onstage death and resurrection, Green Day’s pyro-fueled punk rock, and Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx’s tender tribute to Ray Charles all spring to mind, but it was one of the show’s quietest moments that left some people talking loudest. When U2 took the stage to accept their third Grammy of the evening – for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals – Bono seemed genuinely shocked. And in a rare inarticulate moment, he had nothing to say. So drummer Larry Mullen stepped to… Read more »

U2 Offers Refunds for Online Ticket Snafu

U2 drummer Larry Mullen is hoping that American fans will forgive them for the snafu in ticket sales. Mullen has posted an open letter on the band’s Web site offering refunds to members of U2’s subscription service. Members were supposed to get first crack at tickets for U2’s upcoming tour but that did not work as planned. “The idea that our long-time U2 fans and scalpers competed for U2 tickets through our own Web site is appalling to me,” he writes along with an apology. Mullen also adds, “By the way, a note to those so-called U2 fans who are… Read more »

U2's the Edge Wants Kin Out of Papers

DUBLIN, Ireland – The Edge, the lead guitarist of U2, is fighting an Irish newspaper in court over its report into a relative’s serious illness that forced the Irish rock band to delay the start of its next world tour. A High Court judge in Dublin agreed Monday to a two-week delay to the hearing of rival lawsuits between The Edge and the Sunday World newspaper. The Dublin-based tabloid identified the relative and condition the person was suffering in a front-page story Jan. 8, but withdrew the report from later editions when The Edge’s lawyers immediately obtained a temporary injunction.… Read more »

Then you return home to America, and all anybody wants to talk about is how you just shaved off your Skynyrd-style mustache. “Yeah, we didn’t know our hygiene was so closely monitored. U2 Tour Delayed

It’s not vertigo that pushed back U2’s highly anticipated upcoming U.S. tour. A family illness has postponed U2’s return to American arenas in support of How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. The tour was originally scheduled to start Mar. 1 in Miami, but the Irish foursome will now kick off its worldwide Vertigo Tour March 28 at the San Diego Sports Arena, Billboard reported Friday. No word on the extent of the family emergency or which band member-Bono, the Edge, Larry Mullen Jr. or Adam Clayton-was affected. In any case, the band is ready to tour America for the first… Read more »

Green Day, U2 And Alicia Keys Plan To Rock The Grammy Awards

Since few people actually care about the winners of the Grammy Awards, the producers of the show always stack the program with top-notch performers to keep things interesting. Few people can remember who won the top award last year, but those images of Prince grinding with Beyonce during last year’s show opener will go down as one of the greatest musical moments in television history. This year, the Grammy people have drawn on 2004’s best-selling artists to make up their list of performers. Performers announced earlier today include Green Day, Alicia Keys, U2 and Tim McGraw. The Grammys will air… Read more »

U2, Eminem, Lil Jon Bring Late Relief to Retailers

New York – Christmas sales came in the nick of time, saving the holiday selling season for most merchants at the last minute. After watching sales waver on an almost daily basis in the first half of December, most retailers say that because the weeks before and after Christmas were strong, stores could top last year’s numbers. “Christmas was late coming, but once it did, it came crushing in,” says Geoffrey Caruso, manager of the Amoeba store in Berkeley, Calif. “In the first part of December, it vacillated from day to day.” Indeed, Nielsen SoundScan numbers confirm that for the… Read more »

U2 Encourage Fans To Lend A Hand To Tsunami Relief Efforts

In the wake of a major tragedy, some bands and artists find it difficult to stand idly by or wait for someone else to take action. U2 Return To Bob Hewson's Stomping Grounds For Next Video

They endured unpredictable weather on a Spanish plain for their “Vertigo” video and traffic on the streets of New York for “All Because of You,” so U2 thought they were keeping it simple by shooting their next clip in a Dublin, Ireland, theater. That is, until they were put at the mercy of the venue’s Christmas production of “Jack and the Beanstalk.” The group shot the video for the track “Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own” on Monday at the Gaiety Theater, according to a band spokesperson. The theater, which is currently housing the children’s story production, gave… Read more »
