R.E.M. Remixes Available Online


R.E.M. has posted a gift for its fans on the band’s website (remhq.com): an album’s worth of remixes of tracks from its most recent collection, Reveal. The 10 tracks were done by a variety of remixers, including Andy Lemaster, Jamie Candiloro, and Marc Bianchi. The site features six songs from Reveal, including four different takes of “I’ve Been High.” There are no plans to release the remixes commercially. R.E.M.’s Peter Buck was cleared of all charges alleging he behaved badly on a trans-Atlantic flight last April. An Isleworth Crown Court in London found the guitarist not guilty Friday (April 5) of assault, being drunk on an aircraft and damaging airline dishes, plates and other meal-service items, according to a court spokesperson. R.E.M.’s Peter Buck is once again lining up the side gigs to keep himself occupied while his main group enjoys downtime. The guitarist is currently focusing on the next album by the Minus 5, the guitar-pop group fronted by R.E.M. auxiliary musician Scott McCaughey that counts Buck as its only other official member. R.E.M. and Jewel will perform short sets at the third You Gotta Have Friends benefit for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis on January 31 at New York’s Carnegie Hall. R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck will be retried beginning March 4 on assault charges and other allegations stemming from incidents on an April flight from Seattle to London. Isleworth Crown Court Judge John Crocker dismissed Buck’s first trial on November 13, after a day of opening arguments from the prosecution. He did not make the reason for the dismissal public.
