Monsters Of Emo: Jimmy Eat World, Taking Back Sunday To Tour In April

In a team-up worthy of the Wonder Twins, two of emo-punk’s biggest acts – Jimmy Eat World and Taking Back Sunday – have announced plans to launch a North American tour on April 10 in Champaign, Illinois. “I remember in high school, the true measure of your ‘scene points’ was having Jimmy Eat World’s first album,” Taking Back Sunday frontman Adam Lazzara said. “A lot of the stuff we do, they wrote the script for. When I first heard “Goodbye Sky Harbor” [from 1999’s Clarity ], I was floored, and I’ve been trying to produce something like that ever since.… Read more »

Jimmy Eat World Bloody Up Canada – Review

Jimmy Eat World completely bleed American, which might be why their Canadian visit to the Kool Haus (their second Toronto stop in the last couple of months) remained fairly conservative. Beginning as emo-pop cult favourites and now mid-deep in their crossover to sweaty arena-style power-pop, the Arizona quartet continues to churn out dorm-ready tales of teenage melodrama. Instead of pseudo-edgy, bleach-blonde glamourizing of teenhood tribulations, however, Jimmy Eat World present a more ragged – if no less romanticized – portrait of the American Eagle set: less cocaine, more beer stains; less OC, more One Tree Hill. Yet despite being mostly… Read more »

Jimmy Eat World Gearing Up To Record Next Album

Jimmy Eat World are at a comfortable stage in the making of their next album – the middle. The Mesa, Arizona, rockers are about finished with the writing and are gearing up to hit the studio soon. “We have a sh-load of new songs and they’re just kind of awaiting the editing process,” singer Jim Adkins said at last week’s ASCAP Pop Music Awards. “Realistically, we’ll be maybe making a new record for real in the summer.” Jimmy Eat World will again record in a Los Angeles studio with Mark Trombino (Blink-182, Finch), who produced the group’s previous three albums.… Read more »

Jimmy Eat World Finds Success

Jimmy Eat World guitarist Tom Linton says headlining a show in his hometown was a dream come true. “I saw my first concert here – it was The Cure,” Linton said an hour before playing at the Mesa Amphitheatre recently in this Phoenix suburb. “I went out there today and I lay out there on the grass and just looked at the stage. I can’t describe this feeling. It’s craziness.” Before the band took the stage, the largely teenage crowd chanted, “Jimmy, Jimmy.” They sang along once the band started playing. Jimmy Eat World’s self-titled album went platinum in September… Read more »

Jimmy Eat World to Play Benefit

The members of pop-rock group Jimmy Eat World are coming back to their hometown Friday to play a benefit concert for victims of the Rodeo-Chediski wildfire. “It’s for the underinsured or the non-insured residents of the Heber-Overgaard area of Arizona which was pretty toasted by fires,” said singer-guitarist Jim Adkins. “Our drummer, his grandparents had a home over there that was destroyed.” The concert will be held at the Mesa Amphitheatre. The wildfire scorched about 469,000 acres and destroyed hundreds of homes in Heber-Overgaard and Linden this summer. The Arizona natives, whose single “The Middle” catapulted them to pop fame… Read more »

Jimmy Eat World Enjoying Success

Times have definitely changed for Jimmy Eat World. As recently as late last year, the Phoenix band was little known beyond its core fan base. But now, the group’s single “The Middle” can lay claim to being the Number One song on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for the fourth consecutive week while also moving up on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Top 40 charts. Jimmy frontman Jim Adkins recognizes that his life in the band has changed since the success of “The Middle.” Although he says it’s hard to put his finger on how so. “It’s… Read more »

No Get-Hits-Quick Schemes For Tweet, Jimmy Eat World, Unwritten Law

Despite what Lil’ Bow Wow and Britney have shown us, stardom doesn’t always come before you can vote or get behind the wheel of a car. The past few years have been a boon for the high school (Aaron Carter, B2K, Lil’ Romeo) and graduation set (Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton). Even though it may have felt like it, it hasn’t been all teens all the time, though. Veteran acts such as U2, Nickelback, Creed, No Doubt, Train, Sugar Ray and R. Kelly have been banging the charts all along. And lately, singers like Tweet and rockers Unwritten Law and Jimmy… Read more »
