The parents of R&B singer and actress Aaliyah have reached an undisclosed settlement in a negligence lawsuit over her death in a 2001 plane crash, family attorneys said. A chartered Cessna 402B carrying Aaliyah and eight others crashed shortly after takeoff on a flight from Marsh Harbour in the Bahamas to the Miami suburb of Opa-locka. The Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has ruled in favor of the Goo Goo Dolls after the act launched proceedings against a pornographic Web site with a “confusingly similar” domain name. The Goo Goo Dolls filed a complaint March 4 against John Zuccarini of the Bahamas, who had registered a site at googoodols.com, a practice known as “typo-squatting.” His site automatically linked to another with sexually explicit content and advertisements. A posthumous CD is planned for Aaliyah, the singer and actress who died in a plane crash in August 2001. The as-yet-untitled new CD, due to be released by Blackground Records and Universal in November, will feature an undetermined number of new Aaliyah songs, as well as old hits such as “Try Again” and remixes of other songs in her catalog. Authorities are investigating how cocaine and alcohol found in blood tests may have affected the pilot of a small plane that crashed in the Bahamas last year, killing nine people – including 22-year-old singer and actress Aaliyah. Aviation officials on Tuesday said an autopsy performed on Luis Antonio Morales Blanes showed he had cocaine in his urine and traces of alcohol in his stomach.
