On Thursday the music cable channel announced it was joining with Miramax and Cablevision to present a Madison Square Garden benefit concert featuring Paul McCartney and the Who for victims of the attack on the World Trade Center. Cable TV’s music channel VH1 Tuesday unveiled a service to sell CDs on the Internet weeks before they hit retail shelves, becoming the latest in a string of announcements to spotlight rapid changes in music. VH1 is developing two pilots for weekly music video shows: one to highlight alternative bands that have crossed into the mainstream and the other to showcase female artists. The shows could air on the network in one to three months and will appear in various dayparts, VH1 executive vp music and talent Rick Krim said.
