Mike Shinoda's Solo Album May Divide Linkin Park Fans

Linkin Park rapper Mike Shinoda has spent the last six months raising funds for tsunami victims, designing a line of DC shoes, co-authoring a book and establishing a scholarship at his alma mater, the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. And what did he do in his off time? Not much. He only recorded a solo album. While backstage at last month’s Music for Relief: Rebuilding South Asia concert, the workhorse MC/producer told MTV News that he’s been keeping busy with a hip-hop-tinged side project that he hopes won’t offend Linkin Park’s guitar-lovin’ fanbase. “It’s not straight hip-hop,… Read more »

Red Hot Chili Peppers Lack Spark At Secret London Gig – Review

England is gripped by a heady patriotic fervor these days – between the England team’s highly anticipated appearances in the 2002 World Cup and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, you can barely move without seeing a flag or banner. Yet the Brits still seem to have a little fervor left over for their American cousins, especially when those Americans happen to be the Red Hot Chili Peppers. When the Chilis took the stage for a “secret” club gig at the Garage in London on Friday (May 31), the primarily invite-only crowd erupted with an enthusiasm normally reserved for a winning goal… Read more »

Linkin Park Responds To School Shooting

In the latest attempt to link music and school violence, the songs of California pop-metal band Linkin Park are being implicated in Monday’s Santee, Calif., shooting, in which 15-year-old Charles “Andy” Williams opened fire on his Santana High schoolmates, killing two and wounding 13. A friend of Williams’ appearing on NBC’s Today show said that Williams was a fan of the band and that he was influenced by three songs on the band’s Hybrid Theory album: “One Step Closer,” “Papercut,” and “In the End.” Linkin Park released a one-sentence statement about the shooting via its publicist. It reads, “Like everyone… Read more »

Fireworks Share Vinyl Release Of “Higher Lonely Power”

Perhaps one of the most underrated bands of the last decade, Fireworks hit their stride in the early 2010’s with two iconic albums, Gospel in 2011 and Oh, Common Life in 2014. Just when we thought they were in their prime, they sadly disappeared. However, in 2019 they returned after an eight year hiatus with their single “Demitasse“. The song came with fascinating teasers, including a personal beliefs survey. Fans were super stoked that we may be getting an album or EP in the following months, but then we all know what happened in 2020. Another few years went by… Read more »
