Linkin Park To Join STP, Staind On Family Values

Eerie rap-metal sextet Linkin Park will join Stone Temple Pilots and angst-ridden hitmakers Staind on the third edition of Family Values this fall. “As it stands right now, it’ll be Stone Temple Pilots, with us playing before them and Linkin Park playing before us, and then two unknown bands that I’m sure will rock also,” Staind frontman Aaron Lewis said. A source close to Linkin Park confirmed the Southern California group is on the trek. Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland said in April that STP would top the bill. Family Values producer John Scher said Monday (June 25) that… Read more »

Rap-rockers 311 return to the spotlight today with the release of their sixth album, From Chaos, featuring first single, “You Wouldn’t Believe.” As the name suggests, the album follows a turbulent time for the group, which was stuck in legal battles with its former label, Capricorn Records, before jumping to the Volcano label for a fresh start. However, don’t expect such negative vibes to surface on From Chaos. The group, known for its positive vibe, continues to walk that walk on its latest album. Review: Sugar Ray, Sugar Ray

Newport Beach doesn’t raise no quitters. Sugar Ray first presented themselves in 1995 as horn-dog pop funksters with Lemonade and Brownies and were roundly ignored. Floored appeared two years later with a gloss of self-parodying Swingers hip, and the lilting “Fly” took wing, planting band mouthpiece Mark McGrath’s chiseled cheekbones and parti-colored hair in front of every camera or mike that would pause long enough to listen to him joshingly appreciate his group’s success. Having been tagged nobodies and one-hit wonders, Sugar Ray got both mad and even, releasing 14:59 – their position on the clock of fleeting fame –… Read more »

Sugar Ray Talk About New Album

“We still like to go and bash our heads out and play really loud rock,” says Sugar Ray drummer Stan Frazier. Though best known for acoustic-flavored pop hits like “Fly” and “Every Morning,” the band grew up on a diet of California punk and Eighties New Wave, and its fourth album draws on those roots. The self-titled album, out June 12th, was recorded in Los Angeles with Don Gilmore, who has produced recent albums by Lit, Eve 6 and Linkin Park, and features a guest vocal appearance by 311’s Nick Hexum. The songs were written by all five members: Frazier,… Read more »

Sugar Ray Dream Of Strippers, Kareem And Kung Fu

Guitarist Rodney Sheppard steps into Bruce Lee’s shoes and kung-fu fights basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; DJ Homicide chills in a strip club featuring imagery pulled from his favorite hip-hop videos; bassist Murphy Karges rocks out… Read more »

Alien Ant Farm Return

“I’m getting better each week,” says Alien Ant Farm frontman Dryden Mitchell, in his first interview since a May bus crash that broke his neck, killed the driver, and injured the band and six crew members. “People kept telling me everything was going to be OK, but I could feel it in the doctors’ voices that it wasn’t for sure. I broke my C-2 – Christopher Reeve broke the same one. And my bone flicked into my spinal cord. That’s not good.” It took the fusing of two vertebrae, massive rehab and about three months in a halo brace with… Read more »
