When he’s not hosting Gone Fishkin on Thursday nights at 9PM, Fish transforms into a rockstar bassist. Last weekend, he hit the stage with fellow idobi host Mike Herrera’s punk rock band, MxPx. You can check out the performance above!
I was stoked to speak with Mike Herrera, lead singer of one of my favorite bands MxPx about his brand new show, “The Mike Herrera Hour,” on idobi Radio! We talked about what the show will entail and all the subjects that it’s going to have. Plus, we talked about MxPx because hey, why not!
Today marks 17 years to the day that rock juggernaut MxPx performed its first show in the backyard of Mike Herrera’s former Bremerton, Wash. home. In that very suburban spot, the band created a recording studio out of the free-standing garage. The Clubhouse, which has since become a memorable and historic location for the group, will be host to a live greatest-hits performance this Wednesday. “I’ve spent over half my life in MxPx. Let that blow your mind a little!” drummer Yuri Ruley exclaimed. With bands sprouting up left and right, longevity is an attribute found in few and far… Read more »
Contributions from members of Bad Religion, Sugarcult and Aaron Sprinkle enhance pop-punk troupe MxPx’s upcoming album, “Secret Weapon,” due July 17 via Tooth & Nail. The album, the trio’s eighth studio set, marks the first time the group has tapped veteran producer Sprinkle to helm the decks since its 1994 debut “Pokinatcha.” It is also a return to Tooth & Nail following MxPx’s 2000 departure for A&M. Bad Religion guitarist Brian Baker contributes to the album opener/title track, while singer Tim Pagnotta of Sugarcult can be heard on “Shut It Down.” Former Superdrag frontman John Davis helps with piano and… Read more »
MxPx has rejoined Tooth & Nail Records, reestablishing a strong and familiar relationship that dates back to the beginning of the legendary Washington state trio’s illustrious recording and touring career. “We were at a place where, somehow, we found ourselves on this freeway looking at a Tooth & Nail off-ramp. And it looked pretty good!” says singer/bassist Mike Herrera. After three albums and two EP’s on Tooth & Nail (including the landmark “Life in General”), as many more for a major label and 2005’s widely-hailed return to form “Panic,” MxPx is hard at work in a Seattle studio on what… Read more »
IRVINE, California – After 13 years, three labels, seven albums and a career-retrospective DVD, MxPx say they have a record that will put their past work to shame. “This record will kick all of our other records’ asses!” singer/bassist Mike Herrera said. The band’s forthcoming LP, Panic, is its first disc for SideOneDummy and the follow-up to 2003’s Before Everything & After, which spawned punk-pop singles like “Well Adjusted” and “Everything Sucks (When You’re Gone).” “[This record] is raw, but it’s heavy, and it’s a different MxPx,” said the 29-year-old Herrera. “Someone that’s known us in the past may be… Read more »
New York – Along with several large concerts in the planning stages, artists around the world are putting on their own benefit shows or donating to funds for the victims of the recent tsunami in Southern Asia. Sting will play a Feb. 10 concert at the Leeuwin Estate Winery in Perth, Australia, with 100% of the net proceeds donated to the relief efforts. The British rocker already has two sold-out shows booked at the 6,000-capacity venue for Feb. 12 and 13. He had been booked to play a now canceled Feb. 9 show in severely hit Sri Lanka. In true DYI form, MxPx have been busy as heck since the release of THE EVER PASSING MOMENT three years ago. The band made rounds on the 2002 Warped Tour, filmed a Diet Pepsi commercial that aired during Super Bowl XXXVII and opened for Good Charlotte and New Found Glory this past spring. After recording over 40 songs, MxPx will release BEFORE EVERYTHING AND AFTER on September 16. Produced by Dave Jerden and mixed by Chris and Tom Lord-Alge, BEFORE EVERYTHING AND AFTER is MxPx’s sixth full-length album, the band’s third for A&M Records. “Everything Sucks (When You’re Gone)” is… Read more »
