Linkin Park Master Reanimation But Kant Spell

Linkin Park’s Reanimation is one step closer to coming to life. The album, consisting mainly of new versions of tracks from the group’smultiplatinum 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, has gone through the mastering stage, and a final track list has been settled upon, according to the band’s manager. The 20-track LP is due July 30. Linkin Park are the prototypical rap-rock hybrid (in fact, the group’s original name was Hybrid Theory), and Reanimation doesn’t do anything to change their stance on crossbreeding genres. While Hybrid Theory employed looped beats, scratching and other DJ techniques, courtesy of Joseph Hahn, Reanimation puts a… Read more »

Slipknot's Corey, Joey Ready Side Projects

Having a song on the successful “Spider-Man” soundtrack hasn’t gone to Corey Taylor’s head. Actually, “Bother” has deflated the Slipknot frontman’s ego… or superego, as it were. Taylor has forgone using Superego as the moniker for his now-unnamed side project, who hope to release their debut in late summer or early fall, according to a Roadrunner Records spokesperson. Taylor’s Slipknot bandmate Jim Root (guitar) joins him in the endeavor, as do two members of their previous band, Stone Sour, and an acquaintance from the group’s hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. The quintet has recorded 16 songs that run the gamut… Read more »

Ozzfest Looks To Fans For Help Replacing Cornell/Rage

Though the announcement of Chris Cornell forfeiting his band’s Ozzfest 2002 main stage slot has some metalheads raging, the tour is giving fans a say in remedying the situation. A ballot has been posted on the Ozzfest Web site asking for suggestions to fill the void, which opened when Cornell made public his decision to no longer work with the new, unnamed group composed of Rage Against the Machine members guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk. The choices include Ozzfest vets Slayer, Soulfly, Sevendust and Static-X as well as bands inexperienced with the annual metal trek,… Read more »

Aaron Lewis Assists STP, Linkin Park On Family Values CD

Aaron Lewis owes much of his recent success to the Family Values Tour 2000 album, which featured his acoustic “Outside” single, so it’s fitting that the Staind singer is all over the record from the 2001 outing. Family Values Tour 2001, due May 7, features Lewis solo again on “Black,” with Staind on “Fade” and “It’s Been Awhile,” with Stone Temple Pilots on their classic “Creep,” and with Linkin Park on “One Step Closer,” according to Elektra Records. The album, the third spawned from the Family Values tour, also features a notable collaboration between Stone Temple Pilots, who slammed rap-rock… Read more »

Staind's Aaron Lewis Joins Linkin Park On 'Crawling' Remix

Staind singer Aaron Lewis will be heard on a new version of the Linkin Park single “Crawling” on the Southern California rap-rock band’s upcoming remix album. Lewis recorded harmonies for the song in Linkin Park’s bus on the Family Values Tour last fall, Linkin Park DJ Joseph Hahn said Thursday. Hahn described the track, remixed by vocalist Mike Shinoda, as spacey and twice as long as the three-minute original. Linkin Park are shooting for a May release date for the still-untitled album, which will feature remixes of the tracks on their debut, Hybrid Theory, the best-selling album of 2001. The… Read more »
