Evanescence Eyeing Late-2005 Release for New Album

Los Angeles – Evanescence singer Amy Lee hopes to have a follow up to the goth-rock group’s two-year-old mega-hit “Fallen” in stores by the end of the year. “I knew it was going to take a while, and it is. We’re obviously taking longer than the average band,” she told Billboard recently. “Fallen,” released in March 2003, has sold 6 million copies in the United States alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Last February, the band won two Grammys, for best new artist and hard rock performance. In addition to writing individually, the members have done a little collaborating, Lee said.… Read more »

Evanescence's New Sound Is Reminiscent Of… Evanescence

Where Evanescence were once propelled solely by a pair of songwriters, the creative process has become a lot more democratic since the departure of guitarist Ben Moody. And yet Amy Lee continues to get the ball rolling the way she always has: behind closed doors. “I write by myself initially,” the band’s singer explained. “That’s the way I’ve always written, just working on pure thought by myself. Then I bring it to the table with whoever I’m collaborating with.” After Moody split in late 2003, he was replaced on tour by former Cold guitarist Terry Balsamo, who permanently joined the… Read more »

Evanescence And Seether To Tour U.S. In July

Evanescence were set to record this summer until Amy Lee decided to spend the time with her boyfriend. Fortunately for fans, they like to travel. “I thought it would be really fun to tour together since we’ve never had the chance,” Lee said of Seether singer Shaun Morgan. “We’re always missing each other on tour, like, ‘I wish you were here so you can see this, this is awesome, I’m in Paris,’ or whatever. It’ll be fun to see how it works. I’m gonna try not to blow it. Mixing business with pleasure: sometimes it blows up in your face,… Read more »

Default Will Adapt To Evanescence

Anyone remember the ‘80s metal band Queensryche? They were a pretty popular band at the time, but tell that to the angry fans who basically shot down and pissed on the band night after night when they opened for Metallica. Playing with a variety of big name bands can help a smaller band raise their profile. But if they can’t deliver to the fans’ interest, then it’s like sending the proverbial lamb to the slaughter. Default have had the unenviable task of catering to different types of audiences ever since they broke on to the scene, but bass player Dave… Read more »

Evanescence Names Permanent Guitarist

Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee has told Australia’s UndercoverNews website that former Cold guitarist Terry Balsamo is now a permanent member of Evanescence. Balsamo stepped in as a temporary replacement late last year for founding axeman Ben Moody, who abruptly departed in the middle of a European tour last October. Lee said that Balsamo and her band “just clicked” the more they played together. “[It is] better than I ever expected…Terry’s an insane guitar player with awesome stage presence. He has a good personality and he’s down to earth and on top of all that stuff, he’s a great writer… Read more »

Evanescence's Ben Moody Turns Up On Avril's Songwriting Team

Since Ben Moody’s departure from Evanescence in October, many have wondered about the guitarist’s whereabouts. Three months after he quit the band without so much as a “Dear John” letter, Moody has resurfaced as a part of Avril Lavigne’s Moody, who co-wrote all of Evanescence’s Fallen, including the hits “Bring Me to Life” and “Going Under,” is among the songwriters working with the 19-year-old pop star on her second album, the follow-up to her 2002 debut,Let Go. The collaboration was hatched when Moody contacted Lavigne’s A&R rep and volunteered his talents, according to Lavigne’s spokesperson. Lavigne’s guitarist Evan Taubenfeld and… Read more »

Evanescence Make Understatement Of The Year At Chicago Sweat Factory – Review

“You may know this song,” Evanescence singer Amy Lee uttered demurely nine songs into the group’s headlining set Tuesday night at the Congress Theatre. “It’s the song that got us here.” Understatement of the year. Without “Bring Me to Life,” the ubiquitous rap-rock confection featured on Fallen, the Little Rock, Arkansas, troupe would be far more concerned finding people who can pronounce “Evanescence” than finding wall space for their double-platinum album. Now, only five months after the release of Fallen, Evanescence are headlining the Nintendo Fusion Tour, a 20-date excursion that has the band performing after Cold, the group that’s… Read more »

Evanescence Ignites Christian Music Controversy

Christian rock band Evanescence is officially no longer a Christian rock band. Following a recent interview in which it used profanity and made clear that it does not want to be known as a Christian act, Evanescence’s albums are being pulled from Christian retailers and its material will be removed from the Christian charts. Provident Music Distribution, the Christian distribution arm of BMG’s Zomba unit, says it will no longer handle the Wind-Up Records act. Don Noes, senior VP of Provident – which had been distributing Evanescence’s debut album, “Fallen” – has issued a letter to its accounts saying Wind-Up… Read more »
