311 & Jay-Z Headline Warped Organizer's Liquid Mix

Jay-Z and 311 headline the Sprite Liquid Mix Tour, which kicks off Tuesday (August 20) at Wantagh, New York’s Jones Beach Amphitheater. Others on the bill include Nonpoint, Hoobastank, Nappy Roots, N.E.R.D., and Talib Kweli. The tour was put together by Warped Tour organizer Kevin Lyman, who revealed how it differs from Warped. “They asked if we’d come and produce it and I said, ‘Sure.’ And then I designed this thing called ‘the playground.’ I found all these great underground graffiti artists that are going to be doing, hanging under overpasses and building freeway overpasses. Because you drive down the… Read more »

311 to get the Teargas & Plateglass treatment

311 are about to get the remix treatment from underground / hip hop production team Teargas and Plateglass. Teargas & Plateglass will add their signature dark ambient dub vibe to the track “Amber” and according to the duo, “take it very very down”. Alternative rock act 311 formed in 1990 and by 1995 had sold 3 million copies of their “Blue” album. “Amber” is from their new album “From Chaos”. Teargas and Plateglass are known for their series of remixes for a bizarre and disjointed list of artists who commissioned their services for a sound falling somewhere between the dope… Read more »

Hoobastank is finishing up dates with 311 on Wednesday (April 10) in Kansas City. The band is scheduled join Incubus on the Honda Civic tour on Thursday (April 11) in Portland, Oregon. Incubus vocalist Brandon Boyd and company asked their good friends in Hoobastank to open up for them a few years back even before the band had a recording contract. LAUNCH asked Hoobastank’s Doug Robb and Dan Estrin how the band’s approach has changed since its run of dates with Incubus last year. “I don’t think our approach… Read more »

Hoobastank Glad-Hand, 311 Toast And Rooster Strut At Emerald City – Review

Hoobastank opened their spring tour with 311 Monday with all the stage presence and salesmanship of a band bursting to ditch its warm-up act status. During their 45-minute set at the Paramount Theatre, singer Douglas Robb glad-handed the crowd at the front of the stage, hyped an upcoming show on a bill with Incubus and reminded the audience of his band’s name not once, not twice, but four times. (As if you forget a handle like Hoobastank.) “That was lovely,” Robb declared after several songs. It was a surprisingly Martha Stewart-ish term for a band pounding out kick-to-the-head mosh music.… Read more »

311, Hoobastank Pair Up For Spring Trek

311’s spring tour with Hoobastank, which launches next month, will include a very, very special holiday show in New Orleans. No, not Valentine’s Day. Not Saint Patrick’s Day. We’re talking 311 Day, and for the second time in three years, the hip-hop-reggae-rockers will celebrate their self-declared March 11 holiday in the Big Easy, complete with a proclamation by New Orleans Mayor Marc H. Morial. Circus performers and other surprise guests are expected at the concert, which will be an extended show with rare live items on the set list. Hotel packages are being offered in New Orleans for out-of-town guests,… Read more »

311 wraps tour with Halloween hijinks – Review

Rap-rock quintet 311 ended its two-month U.S. tour on a high note with a festive homecoming performance at the sold-out Universal on Halloween. Band members hit the stage in various costumes – a firefighter, G.I. Joe, a bearded wizard, a futuristic Uncle Sam, an armored monster – and launched into more than 90 minutes of tracks from all six of their studio albums, with extra emphasis on “From Chaos” (Volcano/Jive), the band’s most recent effort. The 1997 alt-radio hit “Beautiful Disaster,” featuring Nick Hexum and Tim Mahoney on dueling harmonic guitars, was a crowdpleasing opener, followed by the party-minded “Freak… Read more »

311 Inconvenienced By 7-Eleven Over T-Shirt Design

“No Shoes” or “No Shirt” will get you “No Service” at 7-Eleven stores, and treading on the convenience store’s copyrighted logo will get you a warning from corporate headquarters. 311 learned that lesson when they recently received a cease-and-desist letter from 7-Eleven Inc., according to the band’s management company. The rap-and-reggae rockers have been selling a T-shirt that features the familiar 7-Eleven logo with the numeral “7” replaced by a “3.” They’ve since stopped selling the shirts on their current tour in support of From Chaos, which winds down November 1 in Las Vegas. An outside law firm working for… Read more »
