System Ready "Toxicity" Video

System of a Down are on a Los Angeles soundstage shooting a video for the title track to their near-double-platinum second album, Toxicity. Bassist Shavo Odadjian is taking his first turn as director with the aid of veteran Marco Siega, who, in addition to helming clips for Blink-182 and Papa Roach, also crafted System’s TRL standard, “Chop Suey.” The prog-metal quartet has recalled the 200 black-clad fans who populated the “Chop Suey” video to mosh on command for this latest clip. Out Tuesday (November 20) is…All This Time, the live album Sting recorded in Tuscany, Italy, on September 11. The tone of the performance was, of course, affected by that day’s terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., and Sting pulled a planned webcast of the concert after performing just one song, “Fragile,” as a tribute to the victims. Using a larger band that includes string and horn players, Sting employs different arrangements on most of the album’s 15 songs, and he said that throughout his career he’s felt the freedom to tinker with even his biggest hits. “I’ve… Read more »

MTV Makes Mark in Enemy Camp

While Ali G was insulting German celebrities in a naff bit of hosting in the country’s financial capital, many people were wondering why MTV had selected the less than musical city on the Main for this year’s event. Was it for the internet address, MTV.de, which was held by a local transit company until MTV announced that it had decided to come to Frankfurt? More probable is that the music television pioneer was trying to boost its visibility in Europe’s largest media market, a place where the locals are, in US parlance, kicking its ass. Viva Media, which is listed… Read more »
