U2 Unveil New Song At New York Film Festival


Grammy gobblers U2 debuted the new song “Hands That Built America” on Monday at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival to promote the upcoming Martin Scorsese film “Gangs of New York,” which features the track. The festival’s 15,000 attendees saw a simulcast performance of the tune as the band played in Ireland. Director Maurice Linnane shot the production for an upcoming video. Swedish Punks the Hives Set to Hit America


Swedish punk export The Hives, who have stormed the British singles chart this year, are spreading their infectious thrashy sound to the United States, their label, Burningheart Records, said Friday. Cranberries Unearth 'Treasure Box'


Island/UME will on May 14 release a box set containing Irish pop quartet the Cranberries’ first four albums, each expanded with bonus material from the recording sessions. “Treasure Box – The Complete Sessions 1991-1999” features digitally remastered versions of the original Island albums – 1993’s “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?,” 1994’s “No Need To Argue,” 1996’s “To the Faithful Departed,” and 1999’s “Bury the Hatchet” – as well as a total of 21 B-sides, remixes, and compilation tracks, plus redesigned artwork specific to each disc. EMI dumps Mariah Carey with $28 million pay-off


Pop diva Mariah Carey was axed by record company EMI on Wednesday with a $28 million pay-off, as the British music group decided it could not justify her huge contract after a dismal year for the company. EMI severed its ties with the Grammy-winning American vocalist after signing her to its Virgin Records label only last year in one of the most expensive recording contracts ever. Westlife's McFadden Gets Married


Sorry lasses, Bryan McFadden of Ireland’s chart-topping boy band Westlife has married his musician girlfriend Kerry Katona. Some 250 guests, including McFadden’s Westlife bandmates and former Boyzone singer Ronan Keating, attended the service Saturday. The couple, both 21, were wed at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the County Meath village of Rathfeigh, north of Dublin.
