Punk Vets Pennywise Team with MySpace


After more than 15 years on Epitaph, punk troupe Pennywise has left the label for different, digital pastures. The veteran foursome has inked with MySpace Records for its as-yet-untitled ninth full-length effort, and teamed with the social networking site to offer the album to fans for free. A high-quality audio version of the album will be made available for free digitally March 25, sans digital rights management, to MySpace users who befriend mobile distributor Textango through the popular Web site. Thursday's Victory Treaty Causes Uproar


There wasn’t a Thursday fan alive who wasn’t floored by last month’s announcement that the New Jersey emo innovators will be working with Victory Records on a retrospective CD/DVD package that, as a press release noted, will “tell Thursday’s 10-year-career story from the beginning to the present.” After all, Thursday’s 2002 split from Victory – which issued the band’s landmark 2001 LP, Full Collapse – was the very definition of cantankerous. Bad Religion 'Strikes' Again


Veteran Los Angeles punk outfit Bad Religion will release a new studio album, “The Empire Strikes First” June 8 via Epitaph. Like its predecessor, 2002’s “The Process of Belief,” the forthcoming disc was co-written and co-produced by guitarist Brett Gurewitz and frontman Greg Graffin. “It’s not ready for public consumption yet, but it’s basically recorded and finished,” Graffin told Billboard.com. “We really put a lot of pressure on ourselves to make the best album we could. ‘The Process of Belief’ is considered by many to be our comeback, since Brett and I started writing together again.
