Backstreet Boys Sue Zomba Seeking $100 Million

The Backstreet Boys say they are the victim of boardroom politics and are fighting back with a $100 million lawsuit against their record label. They have sued Zomba Music Group, saying the record label effectively barred the group from recording a new album because of a preoccupation with a now-completed merger with German media giant Bertelsmann AG. A lawyer for the boy band, one of Zomba’s biggest acts, said on Tuesday the group was seeking $75 million for violation of trademark, $5 million for a lost advance and at least $20 million in punitive damages in the lawsuit filed in… Read more »

Justin Timberlake now has a broken limb to match the broken heart he sings about on Justified. ‘NSYNC’s first solo star broke his foot earlier this week while rehearsing for several upcoming television performances and has canceled all promotional events scheduled for the next two weeks. Details on how the injury occurred were not available. “I am sorely disappointed that I must miss any scheduled events,” Timberlake said in a statement. “However, I must adhere to my physician’s recommendations and rest. I look forward to being able to perform again and hope to see all my fans soon.” Timberlake will… Read more »

Lavigne's Top-10 Run Finally Ends

After a run of 22 weeks that few could have predicted, Avril Lavigne’s debut album, Let Go, has finally dropped from the top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart, slipping to Number 11. But it took an onslaught of new releases to push the album from the upper-reaches, including new releases from such heavy hitters as Eminem, *NSYNC’s Justin Timberlake, U2, and the Dave Matthews Band. Still, Let Go is hardly selling poorly. Spurred on by its blockbuster hit “Complicated” and the follow-up, “Sk8r Boi,” the triple-platinum effort experienced sales of just more than 100,000, according to sources, or… Read more »

Good Charlotte Find Where There Is Love, There Is Hate

The past two years have been a turbo-charged merry-go-round for Maryland punk-pop group Good Charlotte. The band’s debut single, “Little Things,” from its eponymous 2000 album, drove the group to the top of the “TRL” heap, and a Warped tour and outing with Blink-182 helped spread the Good vibes far and wide. The group’s new single, “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous,” is currently heating up airwaves, and a video for the song, which features cameos by ‘NSYNC’s Chris Kirkpatrick, Tenacious D sideman Kyle Gass and former Minutemen and Firehose member Mike Watt, is getting lots of love as well.… Read more »

Michael Jackson's 9/11 Single Hits Radio One Year Late

A year after Michael Jackson gathered Britney Spears, ‘NSYNC, Destiny’s Child and dozens of other superstars to record “What More Can I Give,” the September 11 benefit single is finally being heard. New York radio station WKTU-FM debuted the song on Friday at 6 p.m. and has been playing it about six times a day since, albeit without permission. Program Director Frankie Blue, a longtime friend of Jackson’s, won’t say how he got the song, but he insists the King of Pop had nothing to do with it. Marc Schaffel, the executive producer of the single, said at least 200… Read more »

Corey Feldman Pantomimes, Mimics Michael At In-Store Show

“Surreal” is about the only word to describe it when that kid you remember from “Gremlins” and “Goonies,” all grown up now, is rocking out in the middle of a record store. And surreal it was when Corey Feldman and his band played for a bewildered crowd numbering less than a hundred recently at Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard. As fans and curious shoppers waited (and waited), a drummer, a guitarist, a bassist named Pharaoh and a keyboard player (none of whom would look lost at a construction site) along with two backup singers crowded onto a makeshift stage, where… Read more »

Justin Timberlake Admits Oral Sex With Spears

*NSYNC singer Justin Timberlake-who is prepping for the November 5 release of his debut solo album, Justified-recently admitted that he performed oral sex on his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears. The pop singer made the admission while visiting New York radio hosts Star And Buc Wild during the WQHT-FM morning show on Monday (September 23). Timberlake was pressed into making the admission after Star offered to provide the singer’s latest single, “Like I Love You” featuring Clipse, with 30 additional spins a week in exchange. When asked if he performed oral sex on Spears, Timberlake begrudgingly responded, “OK, I did it…I’m in… Read more »

Disturbed Top Billboard Albums Chart

Chicago rockers Disturbed have upset the Dixie Chicks’ three-week run as chart champs, selling more than 283,000 copies of their second album to debut atop the Billboard 200 albums chart, according to SoundScan figures released Wednesday. The riff-wielding quartet has come a long way in its short career. Disturbed’s 2000 debut, The Sickness, while eventually selling more than 2.6 million copies, took nearly two months to crack the chart after its release. What’s even more impressive is that Disturbed’s first-place showing came without an unavoidable, playlist-friendly video. The clip for the LP’s first single, “Prayer,” encountered restrictions because it was… Read more »

Timberlake, Janet Jackson Make Sexy Pair On Justified

While Joey resurrects Broadway and Lance threatens to blast into space, Justin will have to be content with trying to change the face of pop music – again. Justin Timberlake’s debut solo record, Justified (November 12), is a broad, ambitious step from the clean, blissful pop of ‘NSYNC. Timberlake’s vocals still soar, but there’s a lot more funk in his step and a number of R&B artists influencing his sound, including Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Aaliyah and Missy Elliott. “I wanted to do something new that was just completely me,” he said. “I had been so personally drained from… Read more »
