The cable music channel this week is launching a new show, “Becoming.” MTV will pick fans up in a limousine, give them makeovers, teach them choreography and let them recreate their favorite videos. Death metal forefather Chuck Schuldiner, of the band Death, has been battling a malignant brain tumor for two years, and is currently undergoing expensive experimental treatments in an effort to save his life. Jane’s Addiction are finalizing plans for a summer reunion tour, which looks to be part of a roving festival frontman Perry Farrell is organizing. “We’re going to be taking out a show. It’s probably going to have different influences coming together and creating an ensemble,” Jane’s guitarist Dave Navarro said, “more like a traveling circus – whereas in most circuses there isn’t much of a headliner, but there’s a lot of things. VH1 is developing two pilots for weekly music video shows: one to highlight alternative bands that have crossed into the mainstream and the other to showcase female artists. The shows could air on the network in one to three months and will appear in various dayparts, VH1 executive vp music and talent Rick Krim said.
