Surprise performance by U2 delights fans


U2 stars Bono and The Edge showed up unannounced and played as a warmup act at a charity concert in London. The show delighted the 250 people who attended the fundraiser on Friday night for Mencap, a charity that campaigns for equal rights for children and adults with learning disabilities. “Don’t tell Larry (Mullen) and Adam (Clayton) we’ve done this,” Bono joked about his other two band mates from the small stage at London’s Union Chapel. Nirvana Rarities Knocks the Lights Out with Record-Setting Week of Sales


SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Rolling Stone magazine’s four-star review of Nirvana’s recently released “With the Lights Out” (Geffen/UMe) box set concludes with, “if you think you want it, you do.” It turns out that America DOES want it, and in record numbers. The three-CD/one-DVD rarities compilation MORE THAN DOUBLED the previous record for box sets sold in a week during the soundscan era with 105,760 (the previous mark was held by Bruce Springsteen’s “Tracks” with 46,516). When you’ve had enough studying, flirting and fraternizing at your college, MTV hopes you’ll tune into its rock and roll music on a revamped channel for universities. Music channel MTV said on Thursday its mtvU venture would be dedicated to U.S. campus life, with new programing starting Jan. 20. Alanis highlights a sorry Silent Night – Review


Star 98.7’s Not So Silent Night certainly won’t be remembered as the most exciting local holiday concert this year, especially considering the high ticket price and modest artist lineup, though attendees were treated to a sneak of Alanis Morissette’s upcoming third U.S. studio album.
