Waterparks surprised fans yesterday evening by re-releasing Double Dare 2019 on their YouTube channel. The band previously released this re-recorded version of their 2016 album Double Dare after parting ways with Equal Vision Records in 2019 in order to gain ownership over these songs. The band did the same thing with their 2018 album Entertainment.

Almost five years ago to the day, the band shared on social media, “WHAT COMES NEXT IS FOR US. TO FEEL LIKE WE ACTUALLY OWN OUR OLD MUSIC. BECAUSE WE DON’T. SOMEONE ELSE DOES. EVERYTHING YOU’RE ABOUT TO HEAR THIS WEEKEND (& LATER THIS WEEK TOO) WAS COMPLETELY RE-RECORDED IN 4 DAYS AND IT’S WHAT I NEED TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT OUR SITUATION. ENJOY.”

A few months later, the band was forced to take down both re-recorded albums from all streaming services. Frontman Awsten Knight was not shy about sharing his feelings on social media, expressing his anger and disappointment on having to take down the re-recorded songs. He said, “SOME LOSERS TRYING TO SUE US OVER THE DOUBLE DARE 2019 AND ENTERTAINMENT 2019 REMIXES.” He continued, “CAN’T SAY WHO (LOL), BUT THEY’RE COWARDS WHO HATE ART ANYWAY.”

It seems a new agreement has been made with the re-recorded and remixed version resurfacing, although it is only on YouTube and not any other streaming services at this time. The description of the video reads, “if u try to sue me you will have bad luck for 17 years.”

In addition to the release, the band reflected on simpler times in their career, stating, “HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO DOUBLE DARE. IT’S 2017. NOTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED HAS HAPPENED. WATERPARKS HAS 1 ALBUM AND ALL LIVE IN HOUSTON. ONLY AWSTEN KNOWS ABOUT OTTO’S CRIME. SOUNDCLOUD IS HAVING A MOMENT. GEOFF DOESNT HAVE A KID. I’M STARTING TO HUM FANDOM SONGS. WHAT A LIFE.”
