VH1 wants live Hollywood studio

VH1 is looking to create its own Los Angeles version of a live daytime video music studio along the lines of MTV’s “Total Request Live” studio in New York’s Times Square, sources said.

According to sources, VH1 is in negotiations with the owners of the Hollywood & Highland complex, located at the intersection Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood.

Sources, who described talks as being in the preliminary stages, said VH1 is looking to take over three floors of the building to convert into a music studio for live daily performances.

The studio, which would face the intersection of Hollywood and Highland, is projected to be open by mid- to late 2002.

“It is a music-themed show,” one source said.

Launched in 1997, MTV’s “Total Request Live” features Carson Daly hosting a daily music video countdown program that includes celebrity appearances and live performances.

VH1 had originally planned to open its studio on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica but opted for the other location instead, sources said.
