Universal Music Group Tuesday announced some of the initial album titles slated for release on the new Super Audio CD format, which incorporates multi-channel sound capabilities and some copyright protection measures.
The new format was jointly developed by Philips Electronics and Sony Corp
Some of the titles slated for release in the spring of 2002 include Diana Krall’s “The Look of Love,” Shelby Lynne’s “Love Shelby,” and Steely Dan’s “Gaucho.”
Universal, the world’s biggest music company and a unit of Vivendi Universal, in August said it intended to help drive the growth of this new secure music format and make Super Audio CD a standard for the industry.
“We recognize the potential that SACD presents and are pleased to be working together with Sony and Philips, as we had for the introduction of the Compact Disc,” said Larry Kenswil, President, Labs, Universal Music Group.
