Tommy Lee will assume the Ozzfest main-stage slot that was left vacant with the passing of Drowning Pool singer Dave Williams.
The ex-Mötley Crüe drummer-turned-frontman will join up with Ozzy, Rob Zombie, System of a Down and the rest of the Ozzfest 2002 crew August 22 in Denver, according to his publicist. Lee will continue throughout the remainder of the trek, which winds down September 8 in Dallas.
Williams’ body was found Wednesday (August 14) on Drowning Pool’s tour bus in Manassas, Virginia. The band was on its way to an Ozzfest stop in Bristow.
Lee has two live performances scheduled during Ozzfest’s run that might be affected by his sudden change of plans, and his label and management are working out the situation. Options for postponement and/or cancellation are being considered for August 25, when Lee’s itinerary has him in Bakersfield, California, while the Ozzfest will roll out in Mountain View, California; and September 1, when Lee was scheduled to play Harlington, Texas. There is no Ozzfest scheduled for that day.
Lee had previously toured with Ozzfest in 2000, in support of his first post-Crüe endeavor, Methods of Mayhem, a 1999 album recorded with the band of the same name. His first solo LP, Never a Dull Moment, came out in May.
