It has been announced today that one of Arizona’s brightest acts, The Maine, will no longer be operating under their current moniker. So, what are you to call the five piece band now? The answer follows the suit of another band prominent in today’s music scene; as a result of legal issues regarding the state of Maine, the band will be performing under the name The Mvine.
In a clear play on PVRIS’ 2013 title change, their name will still be pronounced the same way as the East Coast state. With the news being made public one short day after the release of their latest album, American Candy, we’re left to wonder if the hype surrounding the collection was what finally brought The Mvine to Maine’s radar. Neither the band or the state will discuss the extent of the dispute, or what brought on the sudden problem with the eight year old group’s moniker.
Luckily, the transition has come with some benefits for The Mvine–they’ve also announced they were recently approached by Vine. They partnered with the video service for a sponsorship, and will be airing six second clips of their shows on the platform.
