Mexico City – Medics attended to hundreds of panicked and bruised spectators hurt by pushing and shoving at a free concert by the rock/hip-hop group Cafe Tacuba in Mexico City, authorities and witnesses reported Sunday.
More than 100,000 spectators packed Mexico City’s central square for the nearly four-hour concert sponsored by the capital city’s government on Saturday night.
Medics attended to 328 people, mostly for anxiety, exhaustion and minor injuries from pushing a shoving, Mexico City Interior Secretary Alejandro Encinas said.
Twelve people were transferred to hospitals for treatment, one with first- and second-degree burns from an electric shock. A second severe injury was caused by the collapse of a circus-style tent on the plaza.
