Houston rapper South Park Mexican received a 45-year prison sentence Thursday (May 30) for “sexually assaulting” a 9-year-old girl, a spokesperson for Harris County 351st Criminal District Court confirmed.
On May 18, a jury convicted the 31-year-old man of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The artist, born Carlos Coy, faced a possible life sentence.
During Coy’s testimony, he maintained his innocence, according to AP. Coy was accused of assaulting the girl at his home, when she attended a sleepover for his daughter last Labor Day weekend.
Coy added that many of the children who testified against him in seven other sexual assault cases lied on the stand, AP reported. Coy claimed the prosecution team that encouraged other victims to come forward influenced them.
Coy released his last album, Reveille Park, in April on his label, Dope House Records/Universal Records.
