On Wednesday, July 30, thousands of Ozzy Osbourne fans gathered in his hometown of Birmingham, England, to witness the funeral procession for the music icon, who passed on July 22. The public showing of the casket in a clear-windowed hearse preceded a private ceremony for close friends and family members. As the hearse rode through the streets decked out in purple flowers reading “OZZY,” fans tossed flowers at the car and also chanted “Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy.”

Additionally, a small marching band paved the way for the hearse, performing Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath hits such as “Iron Man.”

Tens of thousands of fans gathered in Ozzy Osbourne‘s hometown of Birmingham, England on Wednesday for the funeral procession of the legendary rocker and Black Sabbath frontman, who died on July 22 at the age of 76. The hearse holding Osbourne’s coffin made its way down Broad Street and past the Black Sabbath Bridge, where his widow, Sharon Osbourne, and children Jack and Kelly Osbourne got out to look at the overwhelming amount of goodbye messages left there. Sharon Osbourne was visibly emotional and leaned on her children for support as they walked hand in hand. After spending about five minutes at the bridge, they turned to the crowd and Sharon flashed Ozzy’s signature peace sign gesture. #ozzyosbourne #funeral #funeralprocessions #blacksabbath

The hearse made a stop at Broad Street’s Black Sabbath Bench & Bridge, which is lined with balloons, flowers, photos, notes, and more. Here, Sharon Osbourne, his wife and manager, daughters Kelly and Aimee, and son Jack all took a moment to take in the vast memorial. More family members, including Slipknot‘s Sid Wilson–Kelly’s fiancé—and close friends arrived, sharing hugs and tears, while offering peace signs to the fans on the street. Kelly even wore her father’s signature round sunglasses.

People reports that Ozzy will be laid to rest in his and Sharon’s home of Buckinghamshire following the private funeral.
