COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Ozzy Osbourne and heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath will be among the headliners at this year’s Roskilde Festival, one of Europe’s largest music events. Osbourne, who grew up in Birmingham, central England, rose to stardom with Black Sabbath in the 1970s before launching a solo career. It will be the band’s sole summer festival appearance, organizers said Wednesday. Last year, 75,000 tickets were sold for the outdoor event, where more than 150 artists, including the Pixies, Morrissey, Sahara Hotnights and Avril Lavigne, performed on Roskilde’s six stages. This year’s festival, which also will include performances by Green… Read more »
Two musicians who claim they’ve been cheated by rocker Ozzy Osbourne got no sympathy Monday from the Supreme Court. Justices refused to consider the appeal of bassist Robert Daisley and drummer Lee Kerslake, who sued in 1998 seeking royalties for their work on Osbourne albums “Blizzard of Ozz” and “Diary of a Madman.” Los Angeles attorney Nate Kraut said his musician clients have been denied credit for writing songs that are now used in television commercials and during NFL games. “Their music is literally everywhere,” he told justices in a filing. A California judge had dismissed the lawsuit that named… Read more »
Ozzy Osbourne confirmed in a radio interview on Wednesday (March 31) that negotiations are underway for Black Sabbath to perform on this summer’s Ozzfest, according to Blabbermouth.net. Asked if the rumors about a Sabbath reunion had any basis in truth, Ozzy replied, “I believe so.” Ozzy would not confirm anything else, including the rumor that Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler had rejoined his solo band, because he apparently did not want to get “yelled at” by wife and manager Sharon Osbourne. Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi confirmed to LAUNCH earlier this week that talks about a Sabbath appearance at Ozzfest had commenced.… Read more »
Ozzy Osbourne will not receive the Freedom Of Birmingham, the highest honor that can be awarded to a citizen of the British city, according to the icbirmingham.co.uk website. City Councillor Tony Kennedy led a campaign to bestow the award upon Ozzy by claiming that his battle to overcome drug and alcohol addiction could be a model for residents of the city. But other councillors shot the idea down, saying they wouldn’t vote for the heavy metal legend. Councillor Coun John Hemming said, “Frankly, the idea of Osborne as a role model is laughable. I can’t see many parents wanting their… Read more »
Call it “Diary of Another Madman.” Ozzy Osbourne, who titled his second solo album Diary of a Madman, is writing a Broadway musical based on the nutty Russian monk Rasputin. The Prince of Darkness already has material written for the project and plans to record it at a studio he is building in the famed Osbournes house, he said last week. Ozzy, who recently parted with his longtime label, also said that when he releases the songs, or any recordings for that matter, he’ll distribute them independently. “We don’t like record labels,” the singer’s wife and manager, Sharon, said, sticking… Read more »

Ozzy Osbourne was a no-show at Saturday night’s Ozzfest concert at the new White River Amphitheatre. There was no official explanation why Osbourne didn’t perform, but front man David Draiman told the crowd, “Keep Ozzy in your prayers tonight. Let’s hope he gets well soon.” Osbourne, whose family life is the subject of an MTV reality series, “The Osbournes,” was reportedly recovering from laryngitis, which had caused him to miss a few previous shows. The Ozzfest Web site said Osbourne’s doctor had ordered him to rest his vocal cords.
