New Metallica Album Sells Over One Million Copies

Metallica’s latest album release St. Anger sold more than 137,000 copies last week, pushing album sales over the one million mark. The album holds steady at Number Five in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 this week. The sales figures for St Anger, which now totals over one million, are good enough for platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA).

Metallica kicks off the Summer Sanitarium Tour on Friday (July 4), in support of St. Anger, its eighth studio album.

Other rock debuts include Liz Phair’s self-titled release, which sold more than 38,000 copies, and Mars Volta’s De-Loused In The Comatorium with over 28,000 units sold.
