My Chemical Romance delivered a monumental performance at this year’s When We Were Young Fest in Las Vegas, playing their magnum opus record, The Black Parade, in full for the first time since 2007. The band brought their iconic third album back to life. Their performance was complete with all the fan-favorite tracks such as “Famous Last Words,” “Teenagers,” and “Welcome To The Black Parade.” Additionally, their setlist included deep cuts from the album that rarely see the stage.

From the opening piano notes of “The End.” (performed for the first time since 2007) to the resounding G-note that rang across the festival grounds, the audience was transported back to the height of the emo movement, where The Black Parade was a defining moment. Songs like “Dead!” and “Sleep” stood out, rarely performed live but brought to the stage with a raw intensity. For many fans, it was the first time seeing some of these deeper cuts live.

But the night didn’t end with The Black Parade. My Chemical Romance went beyond just their 2006 record. They dove into tracks from Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. The energy soared when they broke out “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” and “Helena” to end their setlist.

If this performance proves anything, it’s that the emo scene is very much alive and thriving. My Chemical Romance will perform at When We Were Young again on Sunday, October 2, at 10:40 PM local time on the Purple Stage.
