Well, what an unexpected surprise: a U.S. band willing to bite the bullet and cross the border under their own volition while not promoting an album!
That will be the case when Modest Mouse head to Toronto to play a show on Olympic Island on June 26. What’s the catalyst for the show, you ask? Why, it’s Toronto’s own uber-famous indie act, Broken Social Scene.
Not satiated by simply appearing at last year’s successful cancon rock show on the island, they decided to go out and bring in the biggest indie rock band on the planet right now.
Since Broken Social Scene are organizing the event, the rest of the line-up doesn’t come as that much of a surprise.
Metric, Do Make Say Think, A Triumph Of Lethargy (whom Modest Mouse are bringing along) and Arts & Crafts’ most recent signing, The Most Serene Republic, are all scheduled to perform.
Keren Ann, who is appearing at the Downtown Jazz Festival that week, may also appear. And knowing BSS’s tendency toward the spontaneous, you can probably expect a surprise or two.
Getting a band of Modest Mouse’s calibre to show up in Canada in the middle of peak touring season isn’t cheap, and neither are the tickets for the show. Presale tickets i are going for $36.50 starting Tuesday. It’ll cost $42.50 when the presale ends.
Still, bills like this are few and far between in Canada and you can bet the hipsters will be out in full effect.
