Italian phenom Damiano David has covered Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ smash hit “Die With A Smile.” The singer-songwriter provided his own stripped-back version of the song, which originally arrived this past August. You can watch the full performance below.

The Måneskin frontman was promoting his new solo single, “Born With A Broken Heart,” which he also performed during a live session on SiriusXM Hits 1 at the SiriusXM NYC studios. On his trip to North America, he also performed the new single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon before hitting the SiriusXM studio.

Commenting on the new song, David shared, “When I wrote this song I was getting out of a very dark place, I was feeling emotionless and I was afraid that I had lost my ability to feel things, either good or bad. This was happening while I was starting the most meaningful relationship of my life and the fear of not being capable or ready was big.”

He added, “I think the song was a way to make myself make sense of what I was feeling and look at it from a less scary perspective. I’m happy to say that today I don’t feel like this but I think a lot of people can relate with the feeling of not being good enough.”

David has promised a full-length album is on the way along with a solo tour supporting it. He recently told NME, “It’s going to be very excessive, very dramatic, very theatrical, I would say. It’s definitely more personal. It’s about the drama of being alive; especially under the circumstances.”

He also promised this isn’t the end of Måneskin, either. Stating, “We’re in training to get back different, better and harder.” Bassist Victoria De Angelis also recently announced her solo project as well as her debut single, “Get Up Bitch (Shake Ya Ass)” featuring Anitta.
