Lifehouse's 'Hanging' A Highlight Of 2001

As the most-played rock song on radio in 2001, Lifehouse’s “Hanging By A Moment” definitely helped define the year in music. However, Lifehouse lead singer Jason Wade said that such success never entered his mind when he came up with the song.

“It’s just one of those things that we didn’t really expect, you know? When I was writing the song, I obviously didn’t know that. I think you always have to keep in mind when you’re writing songs that you shouldn’t write for the radio,” he said. “I just wrote that song without thinking of what was gonna happen to it and then it just kinda took over from there. So I think that whenever you write, you should just write for yourself and for your fans versus writing for the radio or your record company.”

“Hanging By A Moment” appears on Lifehouse’s debut album, No Name Face. The song was deemed the most played of 2001 by Broadcast Data Systems, a radio-monitoring service.
