Here we are a good 31 years after The Pixies first record, “Surfer Rosa”, and on September 13 the band will release their 7th studio album “Beneath The Eyrie”. The Pixies are required listening for anyone diving into rock music of any kind. The albums “Surfer Rosa” of 1988 and “Dolittle” of 1989 were, not the only, but 2 of the precursors of the birth of alternative rock. After 4 studio albums, the band split in 1993 only to reunite 11 years later in 2004. Another 10 years passed before the band would release another studio record in 2014. “Catfish Kate” premiered online via the band’s official youtube page on August 6 and is the first single from the upcoming September release. Along with the album, the band is touring this fall across Europe – LUCKY Europe. While Black Francis (Frank Black) and other band members never left music, the album heralds the return of alternative rock to the forefront of mainstream music. Hopefully, it will also return the name “The Pixies” to rock charts.
