Pop singer Jewel broke her collarbone and a rib when she was thrown from a horse at her boyfriend’s ranch Wednesday.
Jewel was staying with beau Ty Murray, a major figure in the professional rodeo circuit, at his ranch near Ft. Worth, Texas, enjoying a five-day reprieve from a promotional tour, according to an Atlantic Records spokesperson. She was taken to a medical center and was undergoing treatment for the fractures and bruising at press time.
Doctors have prohibited the singer from playing guitar or performing for at least a month, her spokesperson said. Travel is also not advised. The restrictions will prevent her from performing Saturday at Fan Nation in Irvine, California, alongside Sheryl Crow, Ryan Adams and the Goo Goo Dolls.
Her recovery will also affect at least the first several dates of a European tour, scheduled to being May 10 in Italy. When Jewel would return to the stage could not be determined at press time.
Murray appeared in Jewel’s video for “Standing Still,” the first single from her latest album, This Way.
